Thinking Photography – TEN Projects
A course for creative photographers
Tutor John Credland BA(Hons)Hum(Open), DPAGB, APAGB, BPE3*
£100.00 for the ten-session course: September to December 2013
A course for adults – (non) technical and/or artistic, eclectic, lens-based, enhanced and straight image
making. You sort the camera; we do the rest.
“I’m not just a photographer. I think.” Don McCullin
These ten session headings are cloned directly from the e-Book by David duChemin and will form the
basis for the course.
Homework will be devised along the way so you need to plan time for that each week.
1. Get pickier
2. Better contrast creates better stories
3. Change my perspective by changing yours
4. Create depth
5. Get balanced
6. Pay attention to the moment
7. Pay attention to the light
8. Use the best lens
9. Expose for aesthetics
10. Put a great foreground in front of a great background
Method: Read the notes and the books – dip in and make sketches and gather tear sheets and other
material for your scrapbook of ideas. Make yourself go out each day and make some images, review
them, discard a few; keep a few. Expand on your choices. Assemble a small group of images each
week to complete the sections. Submit them for critique, rework them, refine them or abandon them
and start again. It’s a journey not a destination.
The venue is the room above the Duke’s Music Shop, Market Hill, Buckingham
[Parking in the Waitrose Car Park is just 50p for three hours and a short walk away.
The Western Avenue Car Park is now the same AND £2.50 per day]
